In Memory of those who have died

In hopes that people will become more
aware of the dangers involved in riding
a skateboard, a list is being presented of
individuals who have died in
skateboarding accidents since 2011.
Besides these deaths,
the American Academy of Pediatrics
reports that in the U.S. each year,
skateboarding injuries account for about
50,000 trips to the emergency room
and for the hospitalization
of 1500 children and adolescents.
Most of the following deaths
were reported on the
Skaters For Public Skateparks website, (www.skatepark.org).
Statistics
2011: 45 deaths
2012: 33 deaths
2013: 6 deaths already -
54 deaths, the boarder was not seen (42 at night).
21 falls -
9 deaths, boarder suddenly moved into
the path of a vehicle.
Please take precautions when you ride.
Always wear a helmet,
and always make sure you can be seen.
If you must board at night, use a light.
We count on anyone viewing this list to be sympathetic and compassionate to the families of all involved.
These were all terrible accidents, and pointing blame will not help anyone.
We express our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of these loved ones.
We apologize for any inaccuracies. The intent is to help boarders be safer from now on.
